Mission
The Mission of Cakes for Cause is to empower vulnerable youth through social enterprises that engage the community in cultivating meaningful employment and educational opportunities that teach work and life skills.
Our Vision is to revitalize communities through our youth! Our programs help break the cycle of under-employment, incarceration, homelessness, and lack of education that affects a significant number of vulnerable youth in the United States. Our commitment and the commitment of our partners represent an investment in young people that will pay tremendous dividends for our communities.
To these ends, our program envisions the following:
- Social enterprises and non-profits everywhere use the Cakes for Cause model as a bridge for at-risk youth in becoming self-sufficient and productive members of a global community.
- Multiple industries, including construction, real estate, media and food service, are successfully implementing this model and curriculum.
- Neighborhoods and towns are using these programs to build a stronger sense of community; local residents, neighborhood businesses, retail customers, community agencies, government and non-governmental organizations all come together to enrich the lives of youth.
These are our children and they are a vital part of our community. Although its total foster care population decreased between 2000 and 2004, the State of Maryland has one of the highest (in the top 15) percentages of youth who age out of the foster care system without a permanent family. For these youth and other vulnerable youth in our community, it is this lack of connection to reliable adult role models that make their future more challenging. Underemployment or unemployment, homelessness, substance abuse and incarceration are often the outcomes for youth who age out of care without a permanent family or safety net.
