At first glance it may seem like an odd home for a neighborhood restaurant but what better place to build community than from within a community center? The Bernard W. Brown Community Center, the Housing Authority of the City of Frederick, Cakes for Cause, and Historic Frederick’s new North End have come together in a unique partnership (requiring moxie, if you will) that combines fine food, elegant surroundings, and a staff whose role is to pamper you, our customer. We invite you to linger at the table with us and enjoy the moment.
our food philosophy~
Each day, our staff and apprentices start with viennoiserie (classical breakfast pastries) rolling croissants by hand, baking fresh scones, and brewing finely roasted coffee. We want our customers to experience the surprise and understanding that comes from traditional techniques and the artisan craft of baking. Our commitment to the craftsmanship of our food is important to your experience but also to the experience of our apprentices. We want them to be able to understand and appreciate the effort that goes into making the very best every day.
our customer service~
From the moment you walk in our door, our goal is to make your time with us special. We have focused on the details and made our café comfortable, stylish, and accessible for every customer. For us it’s not just about the food, it’s about how you feel about the food. We want you to look around our space, curl your hands around a hot cup of tea, and take a moment to breathe. And then, when you go back out into your day, we want you to want to come back…as soon as possible.
our mission~
Why do we obsess over each of these details? Well, because Moxie Bakery & Café is more than a restaurant, it’s a training ground for young people in our community. Our staff is made up of culinary and restaurant professionals whose role it is to model and teach the apprentices who are referred into the Cakes for Cause program. Our program provides job training and meaningful employment for youth in the food service industry and our goal is to help them transition into adulthood with a set of transferable skills and the foundation for understanding themselves, their motivations, and the community around them. Our inspiration is to make a difference for youth in our neighborhoods and help them realize their potential – whether it’s in the food industry or any other industry.
